HEY EVERYONE........I'M 60
YUP
ENTERING ACT THREE OF MY LIFE.
I heard this from Jane Fonda a long time ago, that she figures LIFE is divided up into Three Acts. Like a Play.
What bigger play is there............then your life's story
Act One.............birth to 30
ah yes, the beginning. Your formative years. Where everything seems like it will last forever and where everything seems Possible.
The first act of a play, is set up to "introduce" the story. Get people interested.
BEGINNINGS
Act Two.....30 to 60
Now you need to "develop" the story. Lay out the reasons, the events, the feelings, of WHY things happened they way they did
leaving a little room for...........suspense?? the unexpected
there is a lot happening in this Act
It is deeper then Act one, because now you come to understand that sometimes things DON'T last forever, and things may not be Quite as possible as you thought. Oh yes, you are not as invincible as you thought.
NOW the reader (or audience) is hooked.
Act Three.......60, to death. (perhaps 90?)
This is the Act where the "story" has to make some sense. Where events, feelings and all experiences start to mean something.
You have to TIE all the parts together.
so.............that by the END of the story, there is the climax, the "ahhh, now I get it" or the
WOW, was that ever interesting/crazy/ amazing
I AM IN ACT THREE
I certainly HOPE I can start to tie in all the pieces of my life. Understand the Why's
Strengthen the CORE of who this story is about
become meaningful
become relevant
find peace
YUP, that is my journey now...............hopefully until I am 90
MEET MY GRANDMOTHER
you know how they say 60 is the new 50's (or 50 is the new 40's etc)
Well here in this photo my grandma is holding me
She was probably 40 in this photo
YET........in those days, 40 was.....well 40.
I LOVE THIS LADY
yet, she looks so much older then we do/did at 40
her life was harder
she didn't have
Suzanne Sommers Thigh Master
jeans
Dr. Oz's gazillion vitamin suggestions and health alerts
Zumba
Kenny Rogers and Dolly Partons face lift motivations
botox
Kim Kardashians butt implants
mascara
TAMPONS
pedicures, manicures, spas
sunscreen
Spanks
hair dryers, blow dryers, flat irons
liposuction, tummy tucks, breast implants
teeth bleaching
NONE OF THAT
she was a hard working farm wife, who, well............looked like this at 40
but you know what she was
SOFT SHOULDERS TO CUDDLE ON
so we ask ourselves, WHAT is 60 supposed to look like
well, considering all those things above at our disposal
HARD TO SAY
Aren't we LUCKY
Here is a photo of me at 17..........this is what I looked like when Mr. Gorgeous met me
when He...We fell in love
Actually still in Act One
Here is a photo of me and my high school girlfriend
she is only 10 days older then me
She introduced me to Mr. Gorgeous, through her brother
We are now 60
So Now
really
I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT
in Act Three
But I'll work on it
make it interesting
relevant
meaningful
find peace
This is me standing before "my mountain"
Old Chief
It is very close to where my parents live
WHERE GRANDMA GREW UP
I think I'll have many mountains yet to climb
conquer
defeat
face up to
but in the end
I REALLY JUST WANT TO BE
SOFT SHOULDERS TO CUDDLE ON
and p.s
This is what Mr. Gorgeous gave me for my birthday
A FAMILY RING
each of my five children........birthstone
jewels
depicting the JEWELS they really are in my life.
all of them

I loved this post, Wendy. Well done. "Happy Birthday to you" and I wish you many, many more. I hope you are lovin' what you do now 'cause this is the time in our lives where it really makes a difference. I am right behind you in birthdays so this post hit home. All the best. Hugs, Deb=^..^=x4
Happy Birthday, darlin'. What a great post: I agree with you and Jane. And what a beautiful ring Mr Gorgeous gave you.
I seriously just love you!!
This post in ingenious. I am going to print it off and post it on the wall so that I never forget what stage I am at. And when you talked about all the things your grandma had and we do not - I couldn't help but feel so much better about this moment in this day. As I am always late with greetings... I will stick to my style and come running in with a little bundle of warm wishes for a happy birthday. You were far too busy to pay any attention to my wishes anyways and someone always has to pull up the rear - so I will be that one! Remember I was always straggling behind with my camera too? It's just who I am. Ask Claudie. Love you just as much and don't ever forget it!
By the way, Its no wonder Mr. Georgeous fell in love with that younger you. What's so great is that you are the same girl - it's just a different hairstyle.
That ring is very thoughtful and I know how much you appreciate these deep things.
Hugs to Calgary.

Awesome Wendy.
I love the ring.
I hope I am as cute as you when I'm 60! I love you and wish I could cuddle on your shoulder.
Here's to ACT 3!
Woot! Woot!
Happy Birthday Wendy!!!
First I must say that the Hollister shirt just shows how young and hip you are - Age is just a number right!!
I love your description of the 3 acts. I have always thought of life as 4 seasons, but I am liking the acts. Great descriptions.
And the pictures-You are gorgeous darling. At 17 with all that beautiful blond hair and now at 60 with all that beautiful blond hair!!
Hope your day has been Fantastic!!!
P.S. The ring is awesome.
What a wonderful post! Love it, and great insight.
And the ring is beautiful! Love it!
What a great post! Happy Birthday! and you are right, we don't look as old as those who went before us. I was looking at pictures of my two grandmas and they DID look old from about 40 on . . . .
Wendy, thank you for your comments on my posts and thank you for your personal e-mail to me. It meant so much that a stranger could care for someone and take time out of their day to give me some words of wisdom. My life is a roller coaster. Some days I'm great and sometimes not. Mostly ups though lately. Sometimes a person just need to live and let live. I've decided that every one of us deserves to be happy no matter what life throws us and hope it doesn't throw it too often!!!
By the way, you CAN'T be 60!!!! No way!
I am also just starting Act Three! I think it is the best act, although it does require less acting and more scenery and fluff. I wish I could take what I've accomplished now, but have all the energy from Act One!
Happy birthday! You seriously look as beautiful as ever.
Well, my friend, I hope I look just like you when I'm 60!! (Like that will ever happen) You are beautiful!
Happy Birthday! I hope your 3rd act is filled with all the things you love and then some!
That ring is such a thoughtful beautiful gift.
Love your 17 year old picture. I guess when you start out beautiful, you end up beautiful!
Whoa. I think he really likes you.
I got teary eyed looking at the ring. Beautiful...tell your man he did well.
I want to read Jane Fonda's book. I saw her on Oprah. I hope you find your peace.
Act #3 will be the best! btw -you and your friend look beautiful.
Happy Birthday!
Such a great post.
I never thought about it that way. Act 3. Ha! You are going to be writing Act 8! I just know you are.
You are so beautiful.
I love that picture of you and your mountain.
OK Mr. Gorgeous totally scores! Gorgeous ring.
I love the picture of you when you were in high school. You sorta look the same.
Your boobs are probably not.
Love your guts ya know!
Oh happy birthday to you! You have always taught me a lot... This post is no different. And your ring is so beautiful...you deseve it. I'm not sure I believe you're 60 though... You're hot!,
Happy Birthday! Love your message - much to take in. Wow. Beautiful, special gift!
Happy Birthday sweet friend, you look wonderful and I only hope I can be as lovely in and out as you are in about a year or so when I get to act 3. I love your list, no wonder we all look so beautiful.
Great post! Perfect way to sum things up.
Happy Birthday~ you look fabulous!!!
And that ring is gorgeous.
First of all Happy Birthday! I'll be 59 next month so that makes you waaaaaay older than me...Do like being this age. I feel like I've learned alot but still have a few things to learn and do. Don't think I'd want to go back and do some of the hard stuff again. Your ring from Mr Gorgeous is, well, gorgeous. Mimi
I wanna look as good as you during ACT THREE!! You're gorgeous!!!
I'm turning the big 40 next year and looking forward to it. I can't get away with 29 anymore so I'm 35 plus TAX.
OMG Wendy,
YOU are stunning at ANY AGE....I loved this analogy of our lives in stages like a play. Well, life sometimes feel like a stage production, a REHEARSAL. I have often thought of life as a rehearsal for something else....I should post that sometime. But this was so brilliant in that it divided up phases in our existence in a way that just might help us with dealing with the ChANGES we go through and to make sense of it all...dearest, thank you for visiting me. It is always so wonderful to hear your comments, and OH! I KNOW...you look so marvelous for many reasons, I'm sure, but YOU GET A LOT OF FRESH AIR and sunshine and exercise being out there at the ranch!! YOU ARE LOVELY!!!
Fondly, Anita
Well Happy Birthday! It seems we share something else in common...being a Virgo! Love that ring, it is gorgeous!
You described the ring perfectly to me Wendy. It's beautiful, just like you.
I started reading your post late last night, and then Julie called. She really did print this out, and I too think it's brilliant.
You do have a gift of writing, you really do. I've told you this before. What a great way to keep all your thoughts, dreams, messages, tears, love notes... I was also telling Sister that I re-read her journal that she wrote for me. She wrote it in 10 yr. increments. It was like reading a great book, and not wanting to put it down.
Your posts are like that for me. Truly they are. You ALWAYS have a message for us.
I know ACT THREE has already started with a bang.
You will make the BEST of it.
You have your beautiful family, a very wonderful husband (that invited Randy and I to come out next summer BTW) and all your friends here in blogland that adore you. What more could you possible want, ok I know one thing, to have Matt back, I know that.
But he is watching over you that's a given.
Alright now on with the show....
I LOVE YOU
LOVE ME
xoxoxoxoxo
You have that pretty head of yours screwed on right, lady. I love this post.
Happy belated birthday.
I loved your post. Happy happy Birthday! Enjoy the "play"!
Lawdy mercy, Wendy! You have always been beautiful!!! No wonder Barry fell for you in the begining and couldn't get you out of his head all these years because of what you are on the inside. I love this post - I'm well into Act Three and once in awhile a little light comes on in my head and I understand a little better the why's and wonders of life. I remember my granny - age isn't what it use to be, is it? If I haven't wished you a happy Third Act..welcome and enjoy every minute...I know you will!
xoxoxo
Happy Birthday! Enjoy Act 3. It's usually Act 3 before we even understand what the story is about.
No way you're 60. If that's 60, then I'm going to be excited to get there!
Happy Birthday :)
