GO BIG OR GO HOME

You all know these sayings...right
Go Big or Go Home
Big is Beautiful
If ya wanna run with the Big Dog's get off the Porch
I love big butts and I can not lie

I have been thinking lately about BIG

everything lately seems to have to be big

I am bigger now then I have ever been in my life
yeah yeah yeah, it's my own fault
(as I punch me in the face)

So I am trying to fix that
You know the drill, exercise (#_)^*&^#*)_), eat right, eat less
I'll "get er done"
it's a process for crying out loud

But this post is not just about ME

it has to do with how EVERYTHING is getting bigger

example:  Look at the different sizes of plates here.
the smaller one is what people USED to eat on
we've Upsized
also the cups

no wonder we are getting Fluffier
(p.s. the roses are NOT dead, they are DRIED)
my sweet friend Claudie told me to Water my roses. so funny

and look at what we are eating

don't spend a lot of time looking at it
as you might gain 5 lbs on sight

it is a burger, bacon, jalapeno cheese, egg
topped with a Krispy Kream donut
Fries on the side
(my weakness is fries)

But it is even more then just food
we all want bigger houses, take bigger vacations
big screen tv's
king sized beds

and what about parties
Seriously, some kids parties are becoming Oscar worthy

I monumentally failed in the birthday party giving
Yeah my kids had them
but we played pin the tail on the donkey
spin the bottle
musical chairs

I am not saying I am against any of these things
(except that burger thingy)

But maybe it's time to rethink BIG

Heck, I am even finding when I say my prayers
thanking first
then putting in my request for a better day
help me with this and that
and don't forget to bless so and so

I find myself wanting to say
"And, could you Supersize that for Me"

amen

Great post Wendy and soooooo TRUE!!
Everybody wants bigger. It's turned into the American way.

Funny story: A friend of mine recently went to a birthday lunch with a group of women she hasn't seen for several years. She has gained a few pounds and was telling me how worried she was about being the "fluffy girl". She went to the lunch and said "I gained weight but so did all of them - we were all fluffy!". Ha Ha

You have me laughing and crying agt the same time. How true that the whole world has supersized what they want. Maybe, if we get "down to brass tacks", we should downsize and be "happy" where we are. I'm tryng ;-)

Woah!! What kind of mood are we in today girlfriend?
Are we getting a little agitated being on a... shhhhh I'm not saying the word. My lips are sealed.
Is the smaller plate working for you? I swear it works. I'm on a roll too. We should have a little competition on our Summer Breeze girl's fb. I think ALL of us want to loose a few lbs. Let's do it. You start it, I'll follow, promise.
That burger thing makes me SICK TO MY stomach. OMG.
You go girl, and BTW... I think your roses are dead. FEED THEM : )
Love You
Love Me, your BGF

This is such a great life lesson. Nobody wants a small penis.

I'm totally going to start adding that request to my prayers.

I think people today are much bigger than a few eras past, too. you nailed it when you said supersize it! What can we do to make some changes? I think we are hooked on the conveniences, but some French fries sure do sound good right now!

This SOOOO true! And I failed in the birthday party department when my kids were growing up too. And I agree with Claudette, that burger, wolfs up the big one! But.....now I want fries....or chips!

I say AMEN...supersized as well!
Did you hear that Paula Deen has diabetes. All things in moderation.
Although...I have been wanting to try the burger on a donut. It's not like I'll eat it every day right? :)

That breakfast pic kind of makes me sick! My problem is I just love a bowl of sherbet at night..and a cookie to go with it! It's less calories than ice cream right, so...I know, I shouldn't! Big is not always better, that is for sure. ;D

The doughnut egg bacon fried thing - absolutely neausating. Everything is super sized, faster, more complicated. It's sad really.

I think I'll be switching our plates out for antique ones.

Great post and very true. I so agree with you about things getting too big. I took my daughter to a bday party once and these pre-teens had a limo (seriously).

I have noticed that I do better weight wise when I don't eat out. The portions are out of control.

Hang in there and be strong!

Big isn't always better - especially when it comes to that burger! YIKES!

That burger looks horrifying!! Sometimes I try to eat on a smaller plate---and convince myself that three servings on it is still okay:)

What a clever post. You are absolutely right; everything is bigger. We are a gluttonous generation and we are paying for it.

But while we strive to fight against it and get back to what's enough versus what's biggest, let's not forget that going big sometimes is okay (a la ONE krispy kreme ONCE in a while)!

So true Wendy, SO TRUE! We do have to have everything bigger but that doesn't mean its better! My sisters getting married and doing a 50's theme, so I was looking at vintage dresses on ebay, those dresses are TINY! You're right though, we need to cut back, our culture is a little out of control on where their priorities are. :/

I will say the King size bed IS better.. and I will fight for it to the end. ♥

That burger thing.. is the most disgusting thing I could think of eating. Seriously.. doesn't even look appetizing.

I love your flowers and pretty plate! I have been trying to eat my meals on salad plates.. because then the portions are right. :)

I am loathing my daily exercising.. but this supersized body needs it too!

I'll add my amen to that.

I think many are getting it and starting to realize today's small is yester-years big!

sad but true! I never get a drink smaller than a 32 oz. I don't think when I was growing up there were 32 oz cups and we survived. stupid, stupid us!!!

I'm still going to give you my deep fried chocolate bars recipe. (Honestly though, this is very wise.)

It doesn't take long to be supersized! I gained 10 lbs over the holiday! 10 UGLY POUNDS!! I'm working on taking it off. But it ain't easy! For instance, I haven't eaten any sweets (candy, cookie, cupcake, etc) for 2 weeks! 2 WEEKS!! I'm going CRAZY! That's why I keep YELLING in this comment! I have lost 5 lbs in the past 2 weeks but some days I think being 10 lbs overweight and being able to eat sweets is well worth it...or not!
Just keep praying! I think He suprsizes all our blessings and we don't even know it!

Good morning Wendy, This post is BIG on some deep thinking. HA! Your comparisons are awesome and SO TRUE! I too am on a thing to lose some pounds. The donut on the bacon burger did not even look tasty to me. Bigger is a perfect way to describe a large population in our country/world. Sigh, including me.

Claudie and Wendy Lets do it. I'm ready to drop some Christmas cookie fluff.

Love you and your very well done post.Clever you my sista friend.

You nailed it! In fact, just the other day, I was watching some news thing on tv and observing the "regular" americans shown in the clip and every single one of them was obese. It all goes back to the GIVE ME BIGGER.

We gotta downsize somehow

Saimi said...

I'm going home cause if that's what it takes to be BIG, I don't want any part of it!

I've started Jazzercise in an attempt to stem the rising tide of BIGNESS that seems to be focused on my behind. I'd like not to be the biggest woman at my daughter's wedding in May.
The photo of the plates and cups says it all - we're all eating and drinking way more than our forbearers and it shows!

Such a good post. I have to agree. I've done some supersizing on my own as well.....dammit.
I look at that donut burger thing and I can't decide whether to shudder or drool.

Hope you have a great weekend.

Wendy,
What a great post. You are dead on about the "big" trend. I read a diet and health book years ago that was making this same point. Just one example: compare cup of soda and the small striped box of popcorn (remember them?) people used to buy (and couples used to share) when they went to the movies in the 1950s and 60s with the individual wheelbarrow of popcorn and fire bucket sized sodas sold now. No bout a doubt it (ha, ha), big is the new norm. I'm glad you enjoyed the Longfellow poem I posted.

All the best,
Ruben

You are such a wonderful writer!! I enjoyed your post and have to share with you that I love fries, too. Have you ever dipped them in a chocolate shake? If not, it is wonderful - kind of a salty sweet thing. LIke putting peanuts in the bottom of a Coke bottle.

And I have to agree with you about the donut burger....pure disgust.

Have a great day!!

Hi Wendy, just me with one of my late night hellos. It is like this...I fall asleep early in the evening and sleep for an hour or more. Then I can't fall asleep until late at night. I know, it is nuts but I am in a bad sleeping pattern. Another thing...with Bob here all day every day, I feel the need to have some me time. He will be leaving next week. I do enjoy his company. He cooks for me and has a good sense of humor but I'm in need of some quiet time and BOB is very loud when he speaks. Like a big boom! HA!

We will talk soon but it will be better after Bob leaves.

Love your comments Wendy and I am so happy you are my sista friend.

Love the post.
I too am biggie sizing myself but I refuse to take the blame. I am sure it is someone else's fault and I'll keep looking until I find the culprit.

I started exercising exercizing exerSIZEing and I keep putting on the pounds. Frusterating. So I will continue to eat my candy and try to figure out why in the world I CAN NOT lose the weight. sigh...
