WHO WROTE THE BOOK OF.......

NO
not the book of Love
cause whoever wrote THAT book  was messed up
No one can write a book about love really
you learn it, feel it, grow with it
through your own lifes journey

BUT HEY
(to quote Uncle Si from Duck Dynasty)
that's not even what this post is about.

It's about BOOKS IN GENERAL
I love books
LOVE !!!! books
I like to look at them, feel them, hold them on my lap

that's why I'm kinda not sure about the whole Kindle thing
(although everyone swears by it)
to me...it's kinda like buying a blow up doll
Not. The. Real. Thing.

I am not a very domestic chick
I don't sew, crochet, cooking is "ify"
heaven forbid I am a moron when it comes to crafts
and creating anything

SO I READ
(safer)

Ernest Hemingway said: "there is no friend as loyal as a book"

I kinda like the look of books scattered around the house
in a neat dis-orderly fashion
if that makes sense

Here are a few examples of some
of the books lying around my place

(don't mind Lucy's bed there in the back)

(hmmmm, kinda blurry)

(that's my daddy, when he was in the fire department, Captain)

oh.....and a son and his wife

For those of you who have been following my blog
for sometime now
KNOW I have .... I CORRECT
Mr. Gorgeous has this HUGE arena on our property
in there I have about 3 boxes stuffed with books
that I need to get to

Me and God have an arrangement you see
I can't die until I read ALL MY BOOKS
and
that includes the books on my "too read list"
I am going to be VERY OLD
 (tee,hee)

Or plan B
HE has to let me take them with me

When I read my books I tab parts that I really like
then when I'm finished, I write them all down
in my little book
WHY???......cause I love to go back and re-read those quotes
and think about them

I think it helps me learn
how to write better
how to express myself better

beautifully written words from amazing authors like:

.....kisses that ran together like a string of pearls
(Cold Sassy Tree..Olive Burns)
....  in a long and unprotected life I have seen and heard
vomitings of demonic humans (Travels With Charley..John Steinbeck)

....and the colors was like milk so soft and warm and
pouring over and into each other. (Gap Creek..Robert Morgan)

SEE HOW BEAUTIFUL

Every now and then I try and read one of the Classics
just so I can say I DID

Mark Twain said: "a classic is a book which people praise
and don't read"

 (pinterest)
Cornelia Funk :  "some books should be tasted,
some devoured,  but only a few should be chewed and
digested thoroughly

C.S. Lewis said: "you can never get a cup of tea large enough
or a book long enough to suit me"

So.............while all you clever gals and or guys
out there
are being creative with your hands
and are incredibly artsy
and some of you I know actually WRITE YOUR OWN BOOKS

I'll just tuck my feet under me
and read
and PRETEND I know stuff

  and p.s.
if you want to extend my lifes longevity
tell me a couple of YOUR favorite books

My all time favorite books are by Diana Gabaldon...the Outlander series! It's funny, will make you cry, has history and a love story and some "mystery" to them.

I don't even care to try a kindle or anything like it....I love to feel the books in my hands, smell the paper and I look at a computer enough during my day...I hate the lighting of those things! Hope all is well, Cathy

Tab a book? What a GREAT idea!!
I am a sucker for books too.

Years ago I gave away several boxes of books because I just don't have the room for them.

I decided that I would go to the library instead.

But somehow I have acquired more and more books. I go to the library. I hit the D.I. I browse the yard sales. I mean who can pass up a book for $1?

I bought another book shelf this past weekend. Just a small one but still.

Hey I think I will turn this into a post since I am so lazy!

Thanks for the idea!

I go through phases where I can't keep books down and then I don't touch one for a couple of months. I do love reading.
I love your method of reading, tabbing and journaling. What a great way to really read a book. Do you have a Good Reads account? I have one. It's an online way of tracking the books you read and commenting on them. I'd love to see what books you recommend.

You remind me of my sister! She's a total book hound, her nose is always reading something. I love when we travel together because we always read the same book so we can have our very own book club going on!

At home not so much as I just don't have the time. When I read a good book nothing else gets done and life is on hold - so I don't read much in the interest of everything and one around me.

I'm glad you take the time to read - You go girl!!!

Oh Wendy you are right about books. I LOVE magazines (& books but, really magazines....) & my hubby says one corner of our house will crack off due to the weight of the books/magazines. Oh well... I do love the new I Pads, Nooks, Computers (with Pinterest) but, there's nothing like the printed, glossy pages of a book or magazine. ENJOY!

Gosh, I knew I liked you. We are the same. I hate reading on my IPAD. I love "real" books. I am also not a crafty kind of chick. Not to mention by cooking leaves a lot to be desired. I would be happy doing nothing but reading 24/7. Unfortunately, life gets in the way of me enjoying my books.

Great post. Loved your quotes.

Hi Wendy! I love books too and used to read so much. Now I'm lazy and read on whims! But alo like you, I'd rather have a read book in my tiny hands. Enjoy your books.
Be a sweetie,

I love to read, too, but once I start a book I am driven to finish it (which is hard since I teach school every day and need my sleep). I'll have to think about my favorite ones and get back with you.

I think you may have inspired me to start a little book of my own. I love that idea.

It's hard to say what my favorites are. These Is My Words is one of my favorites.

I'm a reader too, and was amused at how many of the books in your piles I've read too.
I love mysteries, romances, history, biography and quite a bit of non-fiction too.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful post, Wendy! I'm the same way with books. I love gadgets, too, though. I actually DO like reading books on my iPad. It's crazily like reading a real book--pages turn & everything! But, that being said, there's nothing like holding a real book in your hands...and I will NEVER stop loving reading REAL books! My walls are lined with them. I have piles around just like you. They bring me SO much joy!

I answered your question on my blog, but in case you don't see it--I have SOOO much stuff in my craft room, just waiting for me to use it! So, I usually have what I want when I want it (years of collecting!)

Hope you're having a wonderful night, dear friend...stay cozy--it's even freezing cold here in California!

I was just telling Steve I miss just curling up and looking at a book or magainze. Its a different experience to listen to it (trying to embrace it) but your words resonated! I think you could write a book! Let's see my latest read was Daring Greatly by Brene Brown!

"The Heart is a Lonely Hunter," is a great read but a little hard to get into. Anything by Carson McCuller. Love you idea of tabbing and then writing down those things that touched your heart or funny bone. I just may steal that one from you. The only thing I like about the Kindle is that I can adjust the size of the letters/font so I don't need two pairs of reading glasses and can read in low light.

Ah, another reason why you are a kindred spirit. I love books & reading also! Have you ever read, "These Is My Words"? It's one of my all time favorites & I think you would like it {& the two sequels also!}.

Warmly, Michelle

I seriously need to settle down a little more in life to just read. About the only time I do is at bedtime and that doesn't last long because then I zonk out pretty fast. I'm sure I couldn't read all the books you own in 5 lifetimes. I think that's so neat you put tabs in your books and write down cool quotes. I like that. Sorry I can't recommend very many great books but I did LOVE Gerald Lund's Kingdom and the Crown Series! I think I've read those at least 3 times. carry on and happy reading....

My mother in law introduced me to a new-ish author. She's written 4 books now and they aren't a series so you can read them out of order but they are great!
The author is Kate Morton and her first book is House at Riverton. I haven't read the 4th book yet. It's sitting patiently on my nightstand waiting for me to finish Life of Pi (which is taking me forever!!) but my favorite of Miss Morton's so far is her second book The Forgotten Garden.
Also make sure you've read the classic Uncle Tom's Cabin. Which I'm sure you already have. It's fantastic. A really wonderful short book to read is The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. Read it! Read It!!
I love to read too. See if you can get on Good Reads. A website that lets you log the books you've read, share reviews, compile a list of books "to read" and share them with friends. I'm on there so find me if you do.
What's your favorite book?

I need to make more time in my life for reading. For real.

I have like -- 3 years worth of magazine subscriptions still collectng dust. I had to cancel them all becaause I was too far behind.

Love all of your cute vintage-y things -- around your house.

I was just given a book similar to the message called " Visions of Glory." All of my friends are raving about it. I'm 1/2 way through.. and not sure what I think about it yet.

I'll keep ya posted if it's worth it.

I might be able to knit and draw some but I am with you I love to read -- as a little girl I DON"T but as I age the years go by and I am loving to read and read - there is just not enough time in the day or night (hehe) to read.. here are mine few favorites..holy scriptures - The work and Glory - The Guardian by Gerald N. Lund - and just got done reading this one (Baked Alaska by Josi S. Kilpack) and now A Blind Eye by Julie Daines
That's just a few...you can add to your list.. I don't think we could ever reach the end of a reading list.. there is TONS of good reading book out there.. and I am with you don't like the ebooks etc.. Hugs

I love books too! I love how books are a part of the decor of your home. I check a lot of books from the library and buy books that I read over and over again and a lot of autobiographies and memoirs of church leaders and nonfiction political essays- they're fascinating. My all time favorite that I read over and over is the Harry Potter books series. I love that I can transport to Harry's world and feel like I'm part of that world.

I love books too. As I was looking at the books you have read, I see I have read a lot of the same ones. I love any books written by Jack Whyte especially the last one I read which was "the forest laird" and I love the series written by Shayne Parkinson'. You would like those I think. Check them out on the Internet. Love Diana Gabaldon and I also like Jean Auel's "Clan of the Cave Bear " series. Love Mitch Albom. Love the Work and the Glory series. I could go on forever. Don't like mysteries too much. Love historical romance/fiction. Oh what the heck, I love to read. Get the picture!

You are intelligent...and your dad is handsome...I think it is awesome that you read like that and then take the time to write things down from the books! I feel the same way about Kindle, I love to touch and feel a book, it's a personal relationship for sure. The book I love the most is The Book of Mormon, when I finish it, I just want to cry because of all the new things I have learned and now love. :)

Hello dear Wendy, You and I have the love of books in common. I love your post and the stacks of book in your home. I keep books on tables etc and even change them out to remind me of how much I love them.

My daughters gave me a Kindle and it took me nearly a year to read something on it. I do like it but a book in my hands is my true love to read fix.

Your journal for quotes from the books you read just shows what a deep thinker you are. No wonder your posts are always written so beautifully. The quotes you shared are wonderful. So are you.

My cousin Bob is here and time to visit has come to a halt. He leaves this Sunday. We enjoy playing cards and games. He is a brilliant card player and when I beat him in a game, he hates it. HA!

Books I have loved...there are so many. A standout was Green Darkness by Anya Seton. Gone With the Wind, Rebecca...A classic and so good. It would be a book if I mentioned them all. Smile.

Sending you love and happy day wishes. Give Lucy a big hug for me. I adore her even though I have never met her. If only I could.

I love reading too. And I have way too many books sitting in boxes in my garage. I always wanted to have a huge library in my house for all of my books. Hasn't happened yet. I do like my Kindle for when I get to the end of a book. It's easy to download a new one instead of panicking that I'm out of things to read.

Give me a book, some candy, some diet coke and I can literally spend DAYS on end lost in a literary fantasy of some kind.

C.S. Lewis is always a fave and I love a good biography.

I am a lover of books, old and new! Give me a good book, cup of tea and a blanket and I could spend all day reading. Now if I could only figure out how to get paid for it!

We must be sisters! I'm crappy at crafts and I LOVE to read!
Great idea to tab your books! I just forget what I read, where I found it and what it said. (It must be the gray hair)

But Hey! (Hope they come out with some new Duck Dynastys soon) I love to read too. The kids gave me a nook for my bday. Really not sure about it. It's OK I guess. Still like a book in my hands. I've been reading Earline Fowler's mysterys lately. There's 7 or 8 of them. Takes place where I grew up so it's fun for me. Mimi

Wendy, I love books as well! I have to agree with Corrie that Kate Morton is a fabulous author. I have read all her books and have shared them with others. If you were close, I'd run one over now!

I recognized quite a number of titles in your photos of your book piles. Reading is the greatest winter sport (in my book!)

The words are beautiful. It is what separates good writing from junk. (I have to admit that I am a book and a movie snob. I can't help it. My parents made me this way. ) I don't have a kindle and don't want one, although I know that technology is pushing us in that direction.
A slip-jig is Irish dance/music in 9/8 time. Danced in ghillies (soft shoes), very graceful, up on the tips of the toes, with lots of high leaps. It always makes me think of a butterfly flitting from flower to flower. There is, in fact, a slip jig called The butterfly. It was my daughter's favorite dance and she always did really well in competition.

AH HA! THERE IT IS...now I know why you write so well.....

YOU write notes as you read. That is what a good student/reader must do.

As a teacher, I once read during some of my training that writing WHILE you are reading helps you learn even more about what you are reading. I believe it to be true.

Wendy, I love that you journal as you read. Again, NO WONDER.

It is so good to see you my friend. I thank you for coming by my post...I just went wild and wanted to translate a song that I found so ironic. I am crazy for language.

I wish you a wonderful remainder of winter, and soon my sweet, spring will spring up again for us all. LOVE TO YOU MY DEAR! Anita

Hope your weekend is going well.

Well I LOVE this post. First of all, I totally agree about holding THE book in your hands and not a thingy. (subject to change of course)

I just read A Grief Observed by C.S.Lewis (I LOVE his books) and now it is one of my favorites. He wrote exactly how I felt when I was going through my own 'shadow of the valley of death'. It meant so much to me to read that grief is the same and yet different for everyone.
Of course anything Jane Austen is a favorite of mine.
Ernest Hemingway is buried in the same cemetery as my grandfather here in Ketchum, Idaho and yet I have never read one of his books. That just seems wrong somehow...maybe I will get to it if I live to be very old :)
much love...

Hi Wendy, I always love to see your comment. Thank you my sweet sista friend. I have never made cards before so now I need to get myself in the mood to send some sweet cards to my sista friends. I really did enjoy doing them.

I bet you talked to Julie and Claudie today. They are having a wonderful time together. I'm glad that they can have this time together. It was so sweet of them to call me today.

My dtr and grands were here to ski since last Thurs. They had a wonderful time and it even snowed yesterday. They are Florida kids so the snow was special for them.

Sadly, I was sick with a cold/flu while they were here. Not fun but I am way better today. They left today though and are home safe and sound. It is a 10 hour drive one way.

Stay warm and I hope you are reading a good book.Smile!
Love you bunches,
Jeanne

Just saw your comment on my post & realized I forgot to come back & "talk" to you after my last one!

I LOVE that your Mom used to quote that poem to you! I started putting that on our wall on the first week of school every year when my now 23-year-old started kindergarten! We now quote it all the time! Think it's time I did a little journaling about that! (thanks for the reminder!)

Hope you're having a wonderful night, my friend!

I am with you, I have to have a book instead of a "reader". Books are one thing I won't give up for the computer age.
